The Best Shagle Alternative in 2026 (Free Gender Filter Included)

Shagle's free chat works fine until you want to choose who you meet, and then it asks for $19.99 a month. If you want a Shagle alternative that gives you gender filters, country filters, and fast matching without a credit card, this guide compares the real options and shows you exactly where to go.

Honest Shagle Review 2026: Is Shagle Free or Worth $19.99/Month?

Shagle is free for basic random video chat, but it is not free for the features most people want. The gender filter, country filter, virtual gifts, and reconnect option all sit behind Shagle VIP, which costs $6.99 per week or $19.99 per month. For most casual users, that price is hard to justify.

Shagle is a freemium random video chat platform. That means the core product is free, and the useful controls are paid. Here's how it breaks down in 2026.

Shagle Pros

• Free random video chat with no account needed to start.
• WebRTC-based connections that average under 5 seconds.
• Large global user base, with a country filter covering 200 countries (for VIP members).
• Simple interface that works in a desktop or mobile browser.

Shagle Cons

• Paywall on filters: gender and country filters require VIP.
• Skewed gender ratio: roughly 68% male to 32% female on the free tier, so many free users see the same type of match over and over.
• Inconsistent moderation: users report uneven enforcement against bots and inappropriate behavior.
• Paid filters aren't perfect: some VIP users report the gender filter still matching them with the wrong gender.
• Browser bugs: "Shagle not working" and black camera screen complaints are common.

The Real Cost of Shagle VIP

Bottom line: Shagle is free to try, but paying up to $240+ a year for a gender filter that sometimes misfires is a tough sell when free options exist.

Top Sites Like Shagle Compared (Side-by-Side Matrix)

The best sites like Shagle in 2026 are Chatrix and OmeTV. Chatrix is the strongest Shagle alternative for free random video chat with filters, because it lets you earn coins for gender and country filters instead of paying a subscription. OmeTV is free but offers fewer matching controls.

Here's how the three platforms compare on the features that matter most to switchers:

Key takeaway: Chatrix is the only one of the three that gives you a gender filter, country filter, and interest matching without a recurring payment.

Why Chatrix.site Is the #1 Shagle Alternative in 2026

Chatrix is the best Shagle alternative because it matches you in about 2 seconds, lets you start without signing up, and gives you gender and country filters through free daily coins. It also adds 15 interest tags and AI moderation backed by moderator-reviewed reports, which fixes the two biggest Shagle complaints: paywalls and inconsistent safety.

Here's what makes it worth switching.

Under-2-Second Matching With HD WebRTC Video

Chatrix uses WebRTC for peer-to-peer HD video. When people are waiting in the queue, matches usually connect in about 2 seconds. If a strict network blocks a direct connection, Chatrix relays the call through its own TURN servers so it still connects instead of hanging on a loading spinner.

Start Without Signing Up

Open chatrix.site, allow your camera, and you're live. There are no forms and no email verification to get started. After 5 minutes of calls, Chatrix asks you to create a free account (it takes under a minute), which is what unlocks daily coins, filters, and friends. 15 Interest Tags for Better Matches

Random doesn't have to mean pointless. Chatrix lets you pick up to 5 of 15 interest tags, completely free:

• Gaming, Music, Travel, Sports, Movies
• Art, Tech, Fitness, Food, Books
• Anime, Photography, Fashion, Pets, Science

Select "Anime" and "Gaming," and Chatrix pairs you with someone who shares a tag whenever one is waiting. Shagle and OmeTV don't offer anything comparable.

AI Moderation Plus Human Review of Reports

Chatrix enforces an 18+ age requirement and a three-strike policy. AI-powered moderation flags explicit content in real time, and every user report goes to a moderation queue reviewed by the Chatrix team. That two-layer approach is a direct answer to Shagle's inconsistent moderation.

Text Chat Alongside Video

Not every moment needs to be spoken. Every Chatrix call includes a text chat panel, so you can share a link, spell a name, or keep talking when your mic isn't an option.

How to Get a Gender Filter Free Without Shagle's Paywall

You can't get a Shagle gender filter free, because Shagle locks it behind a VIP subscription. The practical workaround is switching to Chatrix, where you earn +10 coins every day you log in and +50 coins for each friend you refer, then spend 30 coins to unlock gender and country filters for 24 hours.

Why Shagle Gender Filter "Free" Hacks Don't Work

Search "shagle gender filter free" and you'll find modded APKs, browser scripts, and "VIP generators." Skip all of them. They don't work reliably, they can carry malware, and using them can get you banned. The gender filter runs on Shagle's servers, so no client-side trick can turn it on.

How Chatrix's Coin System Works

Chatrix rewards active users with free coins. Here's the step-by-step:

1. Go to chatrix.site and start chatting, no sign-up needed to begin.
2. Create a free account and log in daily to collect +10 free coins each day.
3. Share your referral link and get +50 free coins for every friend who joins (your friend gets 50 too).
4. Spend coins on a 24-hour Gender & Country Filter unlock (30 coins, 190+ countries) or animated virtual gifts from a Rose to a Rocket.

Coins vs. Paywalls: The Math

Log in every day for a month and you've earned 300 coins without spending anything, enough for 10 full days of filters. Refer two friends and that jumps to 400 coins, or 13 filter days. Shagle would have charged you $19.99 for the same month.

Best Apps Like Shagle: Shagle vs OmeTV vs Chatrix

In the Shagle vs OmeTV matchup, OmeTV wins on price because its core chat is free, while Shagle wins on filter range for paying users. But among apps like Shagle, Chatrix beats both by combining free access, earnable filters, interest tags, and fast matching in one browser-based platform.

Shagle vs OmeTV

• Shagle: Broad country coverage and a familiar interface, but filters cost $6.99/week or $19.99/month.
• OmeTV: Popular, mobile-first, and free to use, but the app requires an account and offers fewer ways to control who you meet.

Neither one lets you match on shared interests, and both push you toward paid features for any real control.

Where Chatrix Fits

Chatrix combines free access, earned filters, and interest-based matching. It runs in your phone or desktop browser, so there's no app install required. Quick pick:

• Want free filters? Chatrix
• Want fast matching with interest tags? Chatrix
• Already paying for Shagle VIP and happy with it? Stay put.
• Mobile-only and fine with an account? OmeTV works.

Shagle Not Working? Common Bugs & Instant Browser Fixes

When Shagle is not working, the cause is usually blocked camera permissions, another app holding your webcam, a privacy extension blocking WebRTC, or stale browser cache. Most black-screen and connection errors clear up in under two minutes with the fixes below.

Fix 1: Black Camera Screen

1. Click the lock icon in your browser's address bar.
2. Set Camera and Microphone to Allow.
3. Close Zoom, Teams, Discord, or any other app that might be using your webcam.
4. Reload the page.

Fix 2: Stuck on "Connecting"

• Disable VPNs and ad blockers temporarily. Some privacy extensions block WebRTC, which Shagle needs to connect.
• Switch networks: strict school or office Wi-Fi often blocks video chat traffic.
• Turn on hardware acceleration in your browser settings.

Fix 3: Page Won't Load or Keeps Crashing

• Clear cache and cookies for the site.
• Update your browser to the latest version.
• Try another browser: Chrome, Firefox, and Edge all support WebRTC.

Still Broken? Try a Faster Platform

If you've run through every fix and Shagle still won't cooperate, it may be a server-side problem you can't solve. Chatrix uses HD WebRTC with its own relay servers for strict networks, and you can test it in seconds at chatrix.site.
